It’s not difficult to choose your blogging software, it totally depends upon what is your going to do with your blog. If you want to make a video blog there is a different software and platform available for video blogging, just like this there are many different types of software available for every blog type.

Blogger is owned by Google in 2003 since then it has been becoming popular and popular. It is the most popular blogging platform available for free now days. Its very easy to use, flexible, versatile and customizable. It has lots of features. The big advantage and plus point of blogger is that you can monetize (can make money by the blog) it easily even its completely free.

Wordpress is the biggest competitor of blogger. It is very powerful CMS that has hundreds of features available. It has a free version and a paid one. The biggest drawback of Wordpress is that its free version does not support monetization, which means you can’t make money by its free version.
Wordpress is the winner in the race of customization(tools and plugins) and features. If you want to make a blog with too many customizations I suggest you Wordpress. It works with hosted and non-hosted both the types of blogs.
Typepad.
It is another blogging platform popular now a day. It is easy to use, compatible and customizable. It has many tools by not more than Wordpress. It is not free at all you have to pay monthly fee for this CMS.
Movabletype.
It is a popular platform for team blogging, because it is very easy to setup multiple authors in the same account. It is non-hosted type of platform. Just like Typepad is also not free for use, you have to pay for the license, that is the biggest problem of this blogging platform. Its installation process is also not simple as others.
Joomla.
Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build blog. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.
There are hundreds of CMS available now on Internet. Some are free and some charge you fee. A new trend is growing on the web which is social networking + blogging like myspace, facebook and xanga. Choosing a blogging platform and software is completely depends upon the question that what you are going do with your blog, why you want to make your blog and what role will your blog performs in the blogosphere so, take your time and think about it before starting you blog.
